The Ponderal Index, also known as the Rohrer Index, is a measure of body weight (physically correct body mass) in relation to the body size, similar to the body mass index. In contrast to this, however, the mass m is divided by the third power of the body size l, ie to a (fictive) volume instead of to a surface.
Ponderal Index values between 11 and 14 kg / m3 are considered as normal. This index of the dimensions of a mass density almost fulfills the conditions of a dimensionless measure of the similarity theory, since it is dimensionally independent of the body size and therefore also applicable to children and very large people. However, the Ponderal Index is not widely used.
